Batik Tanah Lembah Bujang
Batik Tanah Lembah Bujang is a community initiative in Kedah that reinvents batik making through the unique art of clay-based batik, inspired by the rich heritage and biodiversity of Ancient Kedah. Once a thriving trading hub over 2,000 years ago, Lembah Bujang is home to priceless geo-archaeological, historical, and cultural treasures, from ancient rock formations to natural landscapes now protected within Jerai Geopark. Blending these elements into contemporary yet locally rooted designs, and guided by Universiti Utara Malaysia, the project empowers the community through culture, creativity, and heritage craftsmanship.

Project Timeline
2019
KUSPEL initiated the project — teaching traditional batik techniques in the Lembah Bujang area.
2020–2023
Development of unique motifs inspired by archaeological sites and experiments with clay-based dyes.
2023
Launch of creative product lines blending tradition and innovation.
2024
UUM receives TRANS grant to expand the initiative, focusing on branding and community empowerment.
2025
Project enters monitoring and refinement phase — building sustainability and impact documentation.
