Merbok Tourism
Beyond the candi, Merbok and the foothills of Gunung Jerai are worth a stop in their own right — mangrove, coast, waterfalls and seafood, all within a short drive of the archaeological sites.
Pantai Merdeka (Merdeka Beach)
Merbok's busiest beach — a promenade, food stalls and a well-known sunset spot. Boat trips run from here to Tanjung Dawai and the mussel farm jetty.
Sungai Merbok Mangrove Forest Reserve (Semeling Jetty)
One of the richest mangrove concentrations in the world, said to hold around 40 of the world's 60 mangrove species. A boardwalk crosses the mangrove swamp; there's a reserve museum, auditorium and tourist information centre at Semeling Jetty. Boat trips generally stop by 6pm.
Pantai Singkir Laut
A quieter, less crowded beach further along the coast — a good alternative if Pantai Merdeka feels busy, also popular for sunset views.
Tanjung Dawai Fishing Village, Jetty & Pantai Rhu
A working fishing village with fresh seafood landed daily, plus a casuarina-lined beach point (Pantai Rhu). Connected to Pantai Merdeka by a short boat crossing.
Jeti Rakit Merdeka Mussel Farm
A floating jetty and mussel farm reachable by boat from Pantai Merdeka — a look at the local mussel-farming economy on the Merbok river.
Kaki Gunung Jerai
The foothill area of Gunung Jerai and the gateway to its trails, waterfalls and viewpoints.
